History of YUVA Rural

YUVA (RURAL) ASSOCIATION is registered as voluntary organization under Madhya Pradesh Society Registration Act 1973. Officially the organization is registered in Madhya Pradesh but the head office is based in Nagpur for it’s historical evolution.

The Rural Unit of YUVA-Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action that was formed in 1984 based in Mumbai and has been working on various issues was started in 1994 from Vidarbha. As the Rural Unit initially engaged in networking process in entire Vidarbha, was covering various rural issues widely. The development perspective plan for Vidarbha region was prepared by this unit and on the basis of those, five years continuous interventions were carried on. This paved an opportunity to Rural Unit to go in deep and initiate new program interventions. The spread of rural unit gave a birth to an idea of developing independent entity in 1999. This further was taken up in the management and Board of YUVA for discussion and thus YUVA (Rural) Association was registered in 2002 after long internal processes.

Based from Nagpur activities of both YUVA’s Rural Unit and YRA are being run in three states namely Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat as YUVA Rural. Technically those projects in the name of YUVA and YRA are shown separately but it is considered as one and the YUVA Rural. YUVA Rural has independent General Council and Governing Council. YRA also has developed strategic plan for the period 2007-2010, which is being redrafted after finalization with staff, community, Governance and other stakeholders.
